RBFF Brings on New Public Relations & Business Communications Expertise

ALEXANDRIA, VA (January 25, 2007) – The Recreational Boating and Fishing Foundation (RBFF) is starting the New Year with added public relations and business communications expertise in three new staff members. Dave Landahl joins RBFF as public relations manager, Alex Filip as industry outreach manager and Stephanie West as senior business communicator.

RBFF communications focus on audiences that include newcomers, lapsed anglers and avid anglers in order to help people discover, share and protect the legacy that is fishing and boating. New staff will play a major role in getting the word out about RBFF’s new Anglers’ Legacy program and its well-established Take Me Fishing™ awareness campaign.

Dave Landahl joined RBFF in November 2006.  As public relations manager, he will oversee public relations efforts and the Anglers’ Legacy initiative, participate in national media tours, recruit professional anglers and celebrities to become involved with RBFF and provide field representation at major endemic events. Prior to RBFF, Landahl served as senior editor/new product development for Sportsman’s Connection and worked with the National Professional Anglers Association (NPAA) assisting in day-to-day management, promotions and operations. He hosted the popular Fishing Fanatics radio show in the Chicago area, covering the world of professional tournament fishing, and has been a contributing writer for BassFan.com, FLW Outdoors and ESPN.

Alex Filip joined RBFF in October 2006. As manager of industry outreach, he will develop and manage partnerships, programs and outreach activities to businesses in the fishing and boating industries. The goal is to help stakeholders improve their own efforts to recruit and retain anglers and boaters. Filip brings extensive business marketing and communications experience to RBFF, having previously owned and operated a communications consulting business – AFilip Communications – that provided full-service strategic communications planning and program implementation for a wide variety of clients including a sports equipment retail chain, resort property, electronics retail chains and an international software company. Most recently, he worked for the U.S. Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). Filip has lectured on business communications, writing for the media, advanced marketing and advertising at the University of Texas, Texas Lutheran University, the University of Phoenix, the University of Arizona and Northern Arizona University. He received his B.A. degree from Marquette University and his M.A. degree from the University of Arizona and is certified as a Business Advisor.

Stephanie West joined RBFF in November 2006. As senior business communicator, she will develop and manage content for stakeholder communications channels including newsletters, RBFF.org, the annual report, marketing brochures, research reports, tradeshow exhibits and presentations. Prior to joining RBFF, West was a marketing and communications manager for SmithBucklin, the world’s leading association management company. Additionally, she served as director of logistics, media measurement and client services for the Washington, DC broadcast public relations firm Home Front Communications, where she planned and managed national media outreach campaigns and served as writer and editor for press releases, media analysis memos and annual coverage reports for association, corporate and government clients. West received her B.S. degree from Florida State University.

RBFF is a nonprofit organization established in 1998 to increase participation in recreational angling and boating, thereby increasing public awareness and appreciation of the need for protecting, conserving and restoring America’s aquatic natural resources. Recreational boating and fishing are America’s favorite sporting activities, with more than 50 million people participating every year—more than golf and tennis combined.
