ALEXANDRIA, VA (February 22, 2021) – The Recreational Boating & Fishing Foundation (RBFF) today announced Fishbrain as the Presenting Sponsor of the 2021 RBFF Virtual State Marketing Workshop. The Workshop, set for February 23-25, 2021, will center on the theme of “Shaping the Future with Customer Engagement” as millions of younger, more urban, and more diverse anglers and boaters took to the water in 2020.

This annual Workshop brings together representatives from state fish and wildlife agencies, the Association of Fish & Wildlife Agencies (AFWA), the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service (USFWS) and other NGOs and federal agencies to learn more about the importance of customer engagement and recruitment, retention and reactivation (R3) strategies to increase fishing license sales and boat registrations.

“As the Workshop goes virtual this year, we are expecting record-high attendance,” said RBFF SVP of Marketing & Communication, Stephanie Vatalaro. “Fishbrain’s support will ensure we are able to present valuable and actionable insights, strategies, and ideas to Workshop attendees as they look to continue to engage anglers and boaters in 2021 and beyond.”

Fishbrain and RBFF have worked together on increasing fishing and boating participation since 2015. In 2018, Fishbrain partnered with RBFF to enhance the Take Me Fishing Places to Fish & Boat Map. The map allows anglers and boaters to find nearby bodies of water and boat ramps, filter for certain species of fish, and find related points of interest, such as marinas and tackle shops.

Thanks to Fishbrain’s additional data, the map also showcases recent catches, provides fishing forecasts and shows which methods and gear are being used by other anglers to successfully catch specific fish in a particular body of water. Since the 2018 relaunch, over 6.3 million unique visitors have used the map to learn, plan, and equip for their best day on the water.

The map is an easy-to-use tool for both novice and seasoned anglers and boaters alike. Over 135 brands have incorporated the embeddable version of the map on their websites, offering added value to their site visitors.

“We know that now, more than ever, people are finding solace in the great outdoors. Our goal at Fishbrain is, and always has been, to make angling accessible and exciting to all,” said Lisa Kennelly, Fishbrain’s Chief Marketing Officer. “It is for this reason that we’re thrilled to be both sponsoring and presenting at the 2021 RBFF Virtual State Marketing Workshop, which is focused on helping the fishing and boating community retain its existing members, and engage with a new and more diverse generation angling enthusiasts. We have seen millions of new catches logged in the past year alone, as well as millions of new Fishbrain users. We are excited to share what we have learned during the past year and use this knowledge to help attendees develop and grow their own communities.”

The State Marketing Workshop is a key component of RBFF’s strategy to assist state agencies in enhancing their marketing and communications capacities.
