Fishington Recognized as Webby Award Honoree
Social Network on TakeMeFishing.org in Top 15% of Nearly 10,000 Entries

ALEXANDRIA, VA (April 16, 2009) FishingtonThe Fishing & Boating Capital of the Internet – has been selected as an Official Honoree for the Social Networking category in The 13th Annual Webby Awards, the Recreational Boating & Fishing Foundation (RBFF) announced today. The social networking site for boaters and anglers, which was launched in October 2008 and now boasts more than 6,200 members, was among the top 15 percent of all work entered that exhibits remarkable achievement.

“We are thrilled to receive this recognition,” said RBFF President & CEO Frank Peterson. “So far, Fishington members have created more than 100 discussion groups and added more than 340 ‘Hotspots’ to the TakeMeFishing.org database of places to boat and fish. In the year ahead, we hope to grow these numbers substantially, inspiring more people to take action and get out on the water.”

Hailed as the "Internet's highest honor" by The New York Times, The Webby Awards is the leading international award honoring excellence on the Internet, including Web sites, interactive advertising, online film and video and mobile Web sites. Established in 1996, the 13th Annual Webby Awards received nearly 10,000 entries from all 50 states and over 60 countries worldwide.

“This is an outstanding accomplishment for RBFF and a testament to their caliber of work,” said RBFF Board Chairman and The Hammond Group Chairman and CEO Ken Hammond. “Fishington is an innovative site that’s connecting boaters and anglers across the country and it is very deserving of this honor.”

Webby winners and honorees are chosen by the International Academy of Digital Arts & Sciences. Web sites are selected for recognition based on excellence in the following criteria: content, structure and navigation, visual design, functionality, interactivity and overall experience. This recognition puts RBFF in an esteemed group of past winners such as Amazon.com, eBay, Yahoo!, iTunes, Google, FedEx, BBC News, CNN, MSNBC, The New York Times, NPR, Salon Magazine, Evite, Meetup, Wikipedia, Flickr, ESPN, Comedy Central, PBS and The Onion.
