The Sportsman’s Magazine Pledges Support for Anglers’ Legacy
Fishing and Hunting Magazine Kicks off Year-Long Pledge Drive, Including Anglers’ Legacy Ambassador Photo Contest

ALEXANDRIA, VA (February 3, 2009)The Sportsman’s Magazine is launching a year-long Pledge drive in support of Anglers’ Legacy, a program from the Recreational Boating & Fishing Foundation (RBFF). The promotion, which kicks off this month, will encourage avid anglers to introduce newcomers to boating and fishing and become Anglers’ Legacy Ambassadors.

The fishing and hunting magazine will reach outdoor enthusiasts through print advertisements, Web banners, new membership packets and through events across the country, asking them to “Take the Pledge.” New Ambassadors will be invited to submit their favorite fishing pictures and enter the Anglers’ Legacy Ambassador Photo Contest. Winners will be chosen each month throughout 2009 to receive a $75 fishing prize package. The Sportsman’s Magazine also conducted a unique promotion this month for current Anglers’ Legacy Ambassadors which offered discounts for the first 100 to subscribe to their Advantage Membership. Their goal is to sign on 1,000 new Ambassadors this year.

“We are pleased to partner with the Sportsman’s Magazine this year, whose readership will help us preserve the legacies of boating and fishing,” said RBFF President and CEO Frank Peterson. “Anglers’ Legacy generates vital funds for conservation through the sale of fishing licenses, tackle and equipment. As we add more Ambassadors to the program and introduce newcomers to the sport, we instill the importance of aquatic stewardship.”

“The Sportsman’s Magazine is excited to offer this contest to encourage readers to take the Pledge and introduce someone new to the sport of fishing,” said Sportsman’s Publisher Sheri Carneal. “It’s a great way to get outdoors and enjoy time with friends and family. We hope readers will have some fun with the contest and submit great pictures of their time on the water. Photo submissions will be featured in the upcoming issue of the publication and we look forward to viewing the entries.”

Anglers’ Legacy, a program aimed at increasing first-time boating and fishing experiences, has signed on more than 90,000 Ambassadors nationwide since its inception in May 2006. Based on a recent RBFF survey, Ambassadors purchase approximately $140 in fishing tackle and equipment, $153 in boating supplies and accessories, and more than three fishing licenses which support critical fish and wildlife management efforts through the Sport Fish Restoration Program.
