Louisiana and Nebraska Join Major Initiative to Increase Fishing License Sales
First-Ever Direct Mail Marketing Program from RBFF to Increase Fishing License Sales

ALEXANDRIA, VA (December 10, 2007) – The Recreational Boating & Fishing Foundation (RBFF) today announced that the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries and the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission have both committed to a direct mail marketing effort to increase fishing license sales. The direct mail toolkit, developed by RBFF to help increase participation in the sport and generate awareness of the connection between fishing license sales and conservation efforts, will be used to implement a lapsed angler recruitment program in Louisiana and Nebraska.

“Momentum for our States Initiative program is really growing,” said RBFF President and CEO Frank Peterson. “We’re happy that Louisiana and Nebraska have joined the effort. Our January training workshop will provide them the necessary tools to encourage lapsed anglers in their states and across the country to get back out on the water.”

“Louisiana is known as the ‘Sportsman’s Paradise’ and our commitment to RBFF’s lapsed angler program will enforce that image,” said Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries Secretary Bryant Hammett. “Increasing license sales is of great importance to us, however, bringing Louisiana families back to our waterways, reconnecting them to the outdoors, is equally important. Our state has countless sport fishing opportunities ranging from freshwater to saltwater, and it is our agency’s duty to stay connected to the angler. We see this new program as a way of connecting to the lapsed angler, increasing licenses sales, and prompting new anglers to say, ‘Take me fishing.’ We are ready to get started.”

"The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission is pleased to be a part of RBFF’s direct mail marketing program to increase fishing license sales,” said Nebraska Game and Parks Commission Director Rex Amack. “We anticipate the program will produce fiscal benefits for our agency, but we also believe it will benefit lapsed anglers who are led back to the pleasures of fishing."

The product will include direct mail templates, instructions to implement a direct mail campaign and marketing assistance from RBFF. A workshop for states that will implement the program will be held January 16-17, 2008 in Dallas, Texas.
