Anglers' Legacy Celebrates 1st Anniversary at ICAST

ALEXANDRIA, VA (July 2, 2007) – Anglers' Legacy will celebrate its first anniversary at this year's International Convention of Allied Sportfishing Trades (ICAST) show, being held July 11 – 13, 2007 in Las Vegas, NV. Anglers' Legacy, which was officially launched in May 2006, has received thousands of pledges in its first year. At ICAST, the Recreational Boating and Fishing Foundation (RBFF) will announce an updated pledge count and release the results of a new survey revealing the program's potential financial impact on the industry. RBFF will also award manufacturers and retailers who have embraced the program's messaging and have promoted it through branding and promotions.

"We're at a critical point in the Anglers' Legacy program where we've got the industry's support and we need to continue converting that support into action," said RBFF President and CEO Frank Peterson. "If you Take the Pledge, you'll make someone's day by taking them fishing. If you sign on as an Anglers' Legacy program partner and commit to spread the word through in-store promotions, co-branding or pledge drives, you're contributing to the industry's future. It's all about making a commitment today—to the sport you love and the business built on it."

The online survey of more than 600 Anglers' Legacy Ambassadors (those who have taken the Pledge) was conducted by RBFF in June 2007 and reveals information in the following categories:

  • Fishing frequency
  • Program participation rate
  • Boat ownership
  • Fishing license sales
  • Fishing equipment expenditures
  • Boating expenditures (gasoline, accessories, rental fees, etc.)
  • Likelihood to continue participating in program

In addition to sharing the results of the survey, RBFF will recognize manufacturers and retailers with the Anglers' Legacy Leadership Award. During Wednesday night's Chairman's Industry Awards Reception, Leadership Award winners will be recognized for exceptional achievement in encouraging anglers to "Take the Pledge" and outstanding promotion of Anglers' Legacy.

RBFF representatives will be located in the ASA Press Room during show hours to discuss the program and provide updates. On-site media contacts: RBFF Communications Director Heather Sieber, (703) 581-8471 and RBFF Communications Manager Stephanie West, (703) 585-1072.
