Anglers’ Legacy Introduces Pledge Drive Kit to Help Grow Participation in Boating & Fishing
New Kit Offers Retailers Promotional Materials to Leverage the Anglers’ Legacy Program

ALEXANDRIA, VA (May 22, 2008) – The Recreational Boating & Fishing Foundation (RBFF) today announced that a new Pledge Drive Kit is available to Anglers’ Legacy Program Partners. Created to help independent retailers leverage the national program, the Kit includes promotional materials to run effective Pledge drives in stores or at events. To date, Anglers’ Legacy has signed on more than 50,000 boaters and anglers and garnered support from 250 partners.

“We encourage all of our retail partners to utilize the Pledge Drive Kit to increase participation in boating and fishing,” said RBFF President & CEO Frank Peterson. “New anglers mean more people purchase fishing tackle, boating accessories and supplies, and fishing licenses. And these sales contribute directly to conservation projects and the preservation of our waterways. We also look forward to signing on new partners this year who will help promote the joys – and the environmental benefits – of boating and fishing.”

The Anglers’ Legacy Pledge Drive Kit includes:

  • How-to information
  • Pledge forms and ballot box
  • Promotional posters
  • 8 x 11 sample of counter Point-of-Sale
  • Ads for promoting Anglers’ Legacy
  • Message guide
  • Graphics on disc

According to a 2007 survey of Anglers’ Legacy Ambassadors, most take more than four people a year fishing and also generate an initial $120 in fishing tackle and equipment sales, $166 in boating supplies and accessories and purchase 3.2 fishing licenses.

“By encouraging anglers to take the Pledge through advertising, marketing and PR efforts, partners will be able to grow their customer base, increase traffic to their Web site, and in the end help preserve the outdoor traditions that we love,” added Peterson.

Launched in May 2006, Anglers’ Legacy asks avid anglers to share their passion for fishing and to visit AnglersLegacy.org where they're asked to "Take the Pledge" – promising to take one new person fishing each year. RBFF will be developing a Pledge Drive Kit for state fish and wildlife agencies to leverage the Anglers’ Legacy program in the months ahead.
