ALEXANDRIA, VA (October 15, 2009) – The winner of the national Take Me Fishing Triple-A Baseball sweepstakes is Chip Tierney of Wadsworth, Ohio, who was selected from more than 37,000 baseball fans to take home the grand prize. Tierney will receive a trip to Orlando, Fla. that includes two guided bass fishing trips on the lakes of a Walt Disney World Resort and Walt Disney World Park passes.

“It was definitely surprising,” said Tierney, a Wadsworth resident for the past 10 years and Akro-Mils manufacturing company employee. A self-described “big fisherman,” Tierney entered the sweepstakes at an Akron Aeros game. He plans to share the trip with his wife and three kids this spring, which will be a nice break “after a long winter,” he said.
Sponsored by the Recreational Boating & Fishing Foundation (RBFF) in collaboration with Triple-A Baseball, the contest generated more than 37,000 entries from the 33 participating teams.

“Baseball, boating and fishing are all time-honored family traditions and we’re delighted that thousands of people not only entered our sweepstakes, but also signed up to learn more about how they can get involved,” said RBFF President and CEO Frank Peterson. “We congratulate Chip on his big win and know that he will enjoy sharing time on the water with his family.”

The grand prize package includes a three-day, two-night trip to Orlando, Fla. with airfare and lodging at a Walt Disney World Resort. Tierney and his family will also receive two days of two-hour guided bass fishing on the lakes of a Walt Disney World Resort, and one-day passes to the Walt Disney World Park.

“We’re pleased to present Chip and his family with our grand prize package,” said BASS Senior Director for Sales and Sponsorship Michael Cassidy. “We’re proud to be a part of the national Take Me Fishing campaign and committed to growing the sport and preserving its legacy for future generations.”

Tierney, who plays guitar in his spare time, said his dad and grandpa taught him how to fish. He’s fished locally for bass and catfish, occasionally making the trek to Lake Erie. The trip to Disney will be a first for his family.

“We were thrilled to hear that a young Ohioan won RBFF’s Take Me Fishing Triple-A Baseball sweepstakes. This national campaign to help families re-discover the great sports of fishing and boating is a real winner. I’d like to personally wish Chip Tierney and his family a great trip to Walt Disney World, and a lifetime of great family fishing trips,” said Ohio Division of Wildlife Chief David M. Graham.
