ALEXANDRIA, VA (February 21, 2008) – The Recreational Boating & Fishing Foundation (RBFF) today announced a new partnership with Bass Pro Shops to promote the Anglers’ Legacy program. Titled The Pledge to Preserve the Legacy, the promotion will encourage customers nationwide to share their love of fishing and introduce a newcomer to the sport. Bass Pro Shops, who signed on as an Anglers’ Legacy Program Partner in 2007, will expand their efforts in 2008 by launching the promotion during their Spring Fishing Classic event, held February 29-March 16, 2008.
In-store displays, flyers and public service announcements will encourage staff, customers and local fishing pros to take the Anglers’ Legacy Pledge, a promise to introduce at least one newcomer to the sport of fishing. Shoppers who sign up will receive a trophy fish poster to record details about their prize catch including date, location and weight.
“We are pleased that Bass Pro Shops will be carrying our Anglers’ Legacy message at their signature event this year,” said RBFF President and CEO Frank Peterson. “Introducing newcomers to the sport has significant benefits for the resource and helps increase funds for conservation. The program has collected more than 25,000 Pledges and we know that Bass Pro Shops will help us grow this number substantially.”
“Anglers’ Legacy will be a very key part of the kickoff event and our Spring Fishing Classic this year,” said Bass Pro Shops Public Relations and Outdoor Education Manager Larry Whiteley. “We know that the best way to preserve the sport is to introduce friends and family to the outdoors. Anglers’ Legacy fits right into that message.”
Anglers’ Legacy has collected more than 25,000 Pledges since its inception in May 2006. The program asks avid anglers to share their passion for fishing and to visit AnglersLegacy.org, where they're asked to "Take the Pledge" – promising to take one new person fishing each year. Don’t miss Anglers’ Legacy and Bass Pro Shops LIVE on Fox & Friends on March 1 to kick off this year’s Spring Fishing Classic.
